Volunteer Opportunities/Jobs

2010 Volunteer Opportunities

Office Support - Assist in the office before and during the Festival. Flexibility and good phone skills are important. Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and/or Access are especially needed and helpful.

Office Support Pre-Festival - Answer  phones, make copies, file, assist with mailings and provide general office support, including data entry.

Office Support During Festival - Answer the Festival information line during regular business hours and weekends.  General office support includes providing office coverage in the absence of staff, answering phones, addressing inquiries, providing venue directions, running errands and doing whatever it takes to keep our patrons smiling and the Festival running!

Brochures/Posters - Distribute brochures, posters, and flyers  in Columbia and surrounding Howard County.  A personal vehicle is required.
 
Signage - During the Festival, place directional signage along roadways pointing patrons to the event locations. 

Welcome Pack Crew - Prepare and deliver Artist Welcome Packages to hotels. 

Transportation Crew - Must have valid Driver’s License and vehicle to transport artists from and to airport, train station, etc. and to transport artists between hotel and event venue for rehearsals and performances.  Schedules change frequently so flexibiity is a must! 

Fund Raising - Generate enthusiasm and interest in the Festival’s fund raising efforts while selling raffle tickets to patrons at  events. Assist with selling Festival and artist merchandise.

Artist Hospitality - Set up dressing rooms and backstage refreshments for artists. Maintain a neat, welcoming atmosphere during rehearsals and performances.

Security - Maintain secure backstage area, restricting entry to only those individuals cleared by Festival staff and/or the performing artist.

Usher - Insert surveys and distribute Festival program magazines, take tickets, aid the physically challenged, collect completed survey forms, and  assist patrons to exit safely from the theater lobby.

Box Office - Assist with management of on-site ticket sales and will-call tickets.

Product Sales - Set up and sell beverages and Festival/artist merchandise at events.  Must be 21 years of age for beer and/or wine sales.


LAKEFEST JOBS

Outdoor Information Booth - Assist at information booth answering questions, distributing programs, selling raffle tickets and Festival/artist merchandise, implementing surveys, and collecting donations during intermission for the “red bucket brigade".

Set-Up/Take-Down Crews - Assist in setting up tents, equipment, signage, displays and activity areas.

Parking - Restrict entry into lower Wincopin Circle Garage and American City Building surface lot.  Re-direct motorists to open and handicap parking areas.

Environmental Care - Remove and replace trash bags and police trash on grounds.

Parade - Walk the parade route alongside a unit, encouraging the unit to maintain the set pace. Return parade participants to their personal vehicles parked at the staging area located in the lot at The Mall in Columbia.

Visual Arts Activities - Assist with visual artist load-in and load-out.  Assist artists with demonstration set-up/take-down. Provide relief for artists in both the Indoor and Outdoor ArtPark.

Kids’ Arts & Crafts - Assist arts and crafts instructors with set up, implementation, and clean up.
