On Wednesday night, February 24, more than 100 people packed the Columbia Association Board room in support of budgeted funding for non-profits, particularly the Columbia Festival of the Arts.  Thanks to all of the e-mails, phone calls, tweets, Facebook and blog postings, and your attendance at the meeting, the CA Board recommended that the Festival receive the full $95,000 to support the 2010 Columbia Festival of the Arts.

On behalf of the Festival team, we want to say THANK YOU!  We are extremely moved and grateful for this outpouring of support.

What Columbia Association Support Means To Us

Many people have asked us to comment on the action taken by members of the Columbia Association Board during a budget work session this week.

While we understand and applaud the CA Board's desire to put structured grant application procedures in place, we would hope that due to the timing of the Festival and the dependence that we have on the support we have historically received from CA, that they will elect to fully fund the $95,000 earmarked for the Festival in their original FY10/11 proposed budget.  A reduction in funds at this time, when we are so far along in the planning process, will certainly force the Festival to eliminate or significantly cut back on events, particularly the free, 3-day LakeFest weekend that takes place in Columbia Town Center.

The Festival is a vehicle for celebrating the inclusion and community spirit upon which Columbia was founded.  For the past 22 years the Columbia Association has recognized, through its support, the very fundamental purpose of the Festival that is inherent in our mission, which is to build community across generations and cultures through shared participation and celebration.

Great news everyone!  We've been able to confirm that we can have a very small "meet and greet" with the Smothers Brothers after their performance!  This will be a really cool opportunity.

We asked some of the volunteers of the Columbia Festival of the Arts to provide us with their “Favorite Festival Moments” and here are some of the submissions:
