Like many artists, Levi Stephens musical roots began in church where he followed in his father’s footsteps by singing and playing the piano. Outside of the church Levi was exposed to soul legends like Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers and Donny Hathaway. In addition, rock bands such as The Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix and Prince all made their mark on Levi's musical style, leading him to pick up the guitar and further develop his sound. Along with his two partners at Kollective Music, Levi has written and produced songs on 702's 2003 album “Star”, (Places and Certified), Raheem Devaughn's 2005 album, “The Love Experience” (Believe) and the Fat Albert Movie Soundtrack (Come on and Join the Gang).

Born of a mutual passion for the deep, down home sounds of an earlier time, eight-piece band King Soul is bringing the excitement of real Southern Soul to a new audience. Featuring original songs, powerful vocals, soaring horn work and driving rhythms, King Soul has become a top draw at area clubs and events. The allstar band includes members of the Slickee Boys, the Rhodes Tavern Troubadours, the Recliners, the Grandsons, the Hula Monsters the Thangs and the J Street Jumpers. King Soul’s membership holds more than 30 Washington Area Music Association Wammies and Austin Music Awards to its credit. “We are proud to play the music the way it is meant to be played – with energy and conviction,” says lead vocalist Tom Clifford. “We believe that our original songs and stage show uphold and add to this great tradition.”

MarchFourth Marching Band is a mobile big band spectacular, consisting of saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a drum/percussion corps, anchored by pumping battery-powered electric bass. Stilt-walkers, dancing girls, flag twirlers, clown antics, and acrobatics accompany this eclectic ensemble. The sound is huge, melodic, and dynamic, taking audiences on a musical journey around the globe. MarchFourth’s original material draws inspiration from an eclectic range of influences, such as gypsy brass, samba, funk, afro-beat, big-band, jazz, and rock music, as well as television, film, circus, and vaudeville.

Natalie York - 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.

Natalie York is a DC-based singer/songwriter who combines the sass of the Stax soul sound and the sensitivity of contemporary folk to produce viscerally romantic songs to tug at your heartstrings. Her debut album, "Threads," was named one of the best local releases of 2010 by The Washington Post, which highlights Natalie's "soulful and warm vocals" and "sophisticated palette." Drawing comparisons to Grace Potter, Corinne Bailey Rae, Norah Jones, Bonnie Raitt and even Janis Joplin, Natalie's music proves to be something very special all her own. A graduate of the University of Miami where she studied jazz and was the first graduate from the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music Program, York has performed and worked with Grammy winners Bruce Hornsby, Shawn Colvin, Lamont Dozier, Jim Lauderdale, Jon Secada and Phil Ramone.




Balti Mare - 1:15 - 2:15 p.m.

Balti Mare (pronounced mah-ray) is a 7 piece Eastern European/ Balkan Gypsy band from Balti Mare, Transylvania, performing upbeat dance and party music. Formerly chicken and goat herders from the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains they now perform both original & traditional gypsy folk music in several languages including: English, Romanian, Rroma (gypsy), Slovak, Macedonian, & Serbian. The instrumentation includes: accordion, violin, alto sax, guitar, bass, hand percussion, and drums. Balti Mare has performed at Artscape 2009, Mehanata (NYC), Red Maple, Joe Squared, Sidebar, Walters Museum of Art, the Baltimore Farmer's Market, and have been featured on University of Pittsburgh radio station WUPJ.



Anthony "Swampdog" Clark - 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Anthony Clark is a world class musician who has performed, and recorded with some of the best local and national blues acts. Clark started out playing the drums at the age of five and later added harmonica to his arsenal after he started listening to blues greats such as Little Walter, Big Walter Horton, Paul Butterfield, and Sonny Boy Williamson. Over the last 30 years Clark has brought his hard edged funky blues to venues such as Bangkok Blues, Chick Hall's Surf Club, the Congressional Blues Festival and the Greenbelt Blues Festival. In 2011 he was selected to travel to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge. His debut CD RAW is available now.



The Herd of Main Street - 4:45 - 5:45 p.m.

Since they began in 2007, The Herd of Main Street has become one of the hardest working bands in the Baltimore area. They have been able to break through current trends and present their own style of American music to both listeners young and old. Although the band is only a few years old, they have already placed themselves on several stages in the area and shared the spotlight with national acts; Rams Head Live, the 8x10, Ottobar, Recher Theatre, city festivals, and countless one night stands. Releasing two full length albums of original music on their own, The Herd of Main Street's sound has been called Americana, alt-country, southern rock, or just plain rock 'n' roll. They have been featured in the Baltimore Sun and on the airwaves of 89.7 FM WTMD. The Herd of Main Street is Peter McKibben on vocals, harmonica, and guitar; Gena Smith on pedal steel guitar, slide guitar, and vocals; Corey Zook on guitar; Lance Smith on drums; and Kevin Alban on bass.


Lucky Dub - 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Lucky Dub plays the feel good vibes that stem from the positive influence of Reggae Music. The band members hail from Washington, D.C., California, New York, the Virgin Islands, and as far as West Africa and Russia. With members of all walks of life, and musical influences, Lucky Dub draws on elements of Reggae, Ska, Funk, Rock Alternative, Pop, Afro Beat and Hip/Hop to create a unique live experience. The band has 5 Wammie nominations (Washington Area Music Awards) and has played many high profile shows including the 2009 Presidential Inauguration, Adam's Morgan Day, Peace Jam for Invisible Children, Haiti Benefits for Doctors Without Borders, Greenpeace's Capitol Climate Action, and Washington City Paper's "Best of DC".


Nayas - 7:45 - 8:45 p.m.


Nominated “Best Latin Duo/Group 2009” by Washington Area Music Association and named in the DC Examiner as one of the best Latin rock bands in the District, Nayas’ unique sound combines rhythms of cumbia, reggae, rock, and ska to create a sound that never fails to bring down the house. Founded in 2001 by bassist and lead singer Luis Torrealva, the band members hail from Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador and the United States. The band has become a fixture in Washington, DC, regularly playing venues such as the 9:30 Club, Black Cat, and The State Theatre. Their first self titled album was released in 2006 and they are currently recording their follow up at Right-On studios under the direction of Emmy winning sound engineer/musician Jerome Maffeo.

Gallons to Ounces - 12:00 -12:45 p.m.

Gallons To Ounces is a trio from Rockville, Maryland, comprised of Matt Cummings, Andrew Griffin, and Zach Miller. The band is one of the most original and musically tight bands in the region with a unique sound that combines elements of funk, rock, jazz, soul, and blues. In March 2010, the group recorded their debut album with Alan Evans of SOULIVE, in his PlayOnBrother studio where they will be recording they're next album in early 2011.



La Unica - 1:20 - 2:10 p.m.

Ireland Meets Latin America - Two South American and three Irish American musicians in the Washington, DC area discussed their combined music experiences over several Coronas and Guinness. The result? The exciting new Irish Latin Rock group, La Única Irish Band. La Única developed a unique sound which blends addicting traditional Irish music with hypnotic Latin rhythms. La Única applies this new sound to Latin classics, Irish standards, pop and rock hits, and several original songs creating the ultimate fusion band. Whether you're grabbing a drink at the local bar or tearing up the asphalt at a summer music festival, the captivating pulse of La Única Irish Band will definitely get you on your feet!


Roosevelt Dime - 2:45 - 3:30 p.m.


Imagine yourself relaxing on a steamboat as it lazily floats down the Mississippi River all the way to The Big Easy. Suddenly, the band strikes up a tune, music fills the air and everyone is on their feet, clapping, dancing and singing along. Welcome to the world of Roosevelt Dime, a five-piece, Brooklyn, N.Y.-based band that blends elements of acoustic jug-band blues, classic Motown soul and modern alt-country to create an original sound best described as King’s County Steamboat Soul. The band’s nontraditional lineup — consisting of banjo, electric or washtub bass, percussion, trumpet/cornet and woodwinds — and seamless mixture of musical genres has caught the eyes and ears of fans, publications, and critics worldwide.


Glenelg Jazz Ensemble - 3:50 - 4:45 p.m.

The Glenelg Jazz Ensemble has received more than 60 awards over the last ten years, including the highest rating at the Maryland State Jazz Festival. Consistently known for its high energy and professionalism, the group has been selected seven times to perform at such prestigious international festivals as the Montreux International Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland; the North Sea Jazz Festival in Den Haag, Holland; the Jazz a Vienne in Lyon, France; and the World Jazz Festival in Frieburg, Germany.

Robert Neal Marshall - Festival Master of Ceremonies

Returning for his 3rd year with Lakefest, Robert is a Columbia based writer, director and actor who has appeared in leading roles on several major stage, television and film projects, including as FDNY Captain Jay Jonas in the Emmy Nominated COUNTDOWN TO GROUND ZERO for the History Channel and a recurring role as John Zaffis in A HAUNTING for The Discovery Channel. He has also appeared at the Baltimore Hippodrome and Off Broadway in Ken Davenport's hit "AWESOME 80'S PROM". As a film maker and lecturer Robert is a Guest Speaker on board the Queen Mary 2 as part of the Cunard Insights Enrichment Programme.
