Columbia Festival of the Arts Chooses Winner for K-12 Poster Contest

Although there were many outstanding entries, the Columbia Festival of the Arts has chosen the winner of the K-12 Poster Contest for the 2010 Festival.

The winning entry was created by an eight-year-old third grader at Waterloo Elementary School.  The artwork will be unveiled at an event in March and the winner will receive a $500 purchase prize.

"Best of Grade" entries, a Director's Choice and a Juror's Choice  were also chosen during the judging process.  These students will receive certificates and their artwork will be exhibited during the Festival in June 2010.

What Columbia Association Support Means To Us
What Columbia Association Support Means To Us

Many people have asked us to comment on the action taken by members of the Columbia Association Board during a budget work session this week.

While we understand and applaud the CA Board's desire to put structured grant application procedures in place, we would hope that due to the timing of the Festival and the dependence that we have on the support we have historically received from CA, that they will elect to fully fund the $95,000 earmarked for the Festival in their original FY10/11 proposed budget.  A reduction in funds at this time, when we are so far along in the planning process, will certainly force the Festival to eliminate or significantly cut back on events, particularly the free, 3-day LakeFest weekend that takes place in Columbia Town Center.

The Festival is a vehicle for celebrating the inclusion and community spirit upon which Columbia was founded.  For the past 22 years the Columbia Association has recognized, through its support, the very fundamental purpose of the Festival that is inherent in our mission, which is to build community across generations and cultures through shared participation and celebration.
