Columbia Festival of the Arts 2010 Announces Poster Contest Winner

Columbia Festival of the Arts Announces 2010Poster Contest Winner
Howard County 3rd Grade Student Receives Top Honors

For the seventh year the Columbia Festival of the Arts has chosen an original piece of artwork created by a
Howard County K-12 student as the representative design image for its 2010 season.  This artwork will be
reproduced on the 2010 Festival posters, brochure and program magazine covers and was purchased from the
student for a $500 cash prize.

Jamie Tsao, an 8 year-old 3rd grader at Waterloo Elementary School, received the $500 cash prize during a reception held on March 18.  Coincidentally and unknowingly, this year’s contest winner, selected by artist Rhona Schonwald, is the younger sister of last year’s Purchase Prize winner, Winnie Tsao.

CFA 2010 Community Arts Project

Columbia Festival of the Arts Summer Times Community Art Project

Clocks Turn Into a Work of Art for the 2010 Festival

The Columbia Festival of the Arts is calling on all area artists to put their creativity to work on the Festival’s annual community art project, Summer Times.  This year the Festival will provide custom-made wood boxes and clockworks for artists to transform into one-of-a-kind works of art that will be displayed and sold during the 2010 Festival, June 11-25, 2010.

“We have once again incorporated a community art project into our annual event,” said Nichole Hickey, Executive Director of the Columbia Festival of the Arts.  “Last year, talented individuals created an array of one-of-a-kind mirrors and we anticipate an equally high-caliber of work with the Summer Times clock project.”

The clock kits will be sold for $25 at the Columbia Festival of the Arts office, 5575 Sterrett Place, Suite 280, in Columbia, beginning February 22.  The completed artwork should be delivered to the Columbia Festival of the Arts office during normal business hours (9:00 – 5:00) between June 1-5, 2010.  Only 100 clock kits are available for sale.

Entrants must be 18 years of age or older, and the finished clocks will be on display at the outdoor LakeFest June 11-13 and at various other venues June 14-26.  Since the finished artwork will be temporarily displayed in an outdoor environment during LakeFest, artists should consider that when selecting materials.  All surfaces of the clock must be finished for display in the round.

All artwork will be for sale.  The sale price will be set by each entrant with the Festival retaining a 25% commission on all sales.

For additional information, please e-mail info@columbiafestival.com or call the Festival offices at 410-715-3044.
Information on the Columbia Festival of the Arts can be obtained on the web site at www.columbiafestival.com.  Performers for the 2010 Festival will be announced on March 18 and tickets will go on sale on April 30.
